Read and Write: Definitions to Know


 Semiotics: The study of symbols and signs as well as their meaning

Denotation: The literal meaning of the word

Connotation: The feeling a word gives off in addition to the literal meaning

Icon: The design of a graphic symbol (app icons, store icons etc.)

Tone: The attitude of a piece

Metaphor: When a word or phrase is applied to something and it is either not literally applicable or means it's symbolic of something else not seen.
